BURWELL TIGERS SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
WEDNESDAY 9 APRIL 2008, 7.00 PM,
BURWELL SPORTS CENTRE

Dear Parent

You will, no doubt, be aware that Burwell Tigers Committee has been working towards a new base and clubhouse for the Club in Swaffham Prior for some time now.  This is an exciting time for the Club.  However, in order to progress the project in time to be using the new ground at the start of next season, Burwell Tigers Committee would like to apply now for grants which would be used for construction works, starting with the car park.  From previous experience of the application process, in order to make successful grant applications the Committee believes that it is necessary to make amendments to the wording of some parts of the Club’s Constitution with regard to issues concerning membership.  The reason for this is that this aspect is crucial in grant applications to funding bodies and can make the difference between a successful and unsuccessful grant bid.

The sole purpose of these proposed changes is to make it even clearer in the Constitution that our Club’s membership is open to all.

The Committee has arrived at wording which it believes reflects this more clearly than was previously the case but without losing the original premise and values of the Club.

It is necessary for any amendments to the Constitution to be agreed by the members of the Club, and we cannot wait until the AGM if we are to be using the new ground at the start of next season.  We need as many members as possible to attend to make sure that the meeting is quorate. If the wording is adopted then applications for grants from various bodies can then be made, which we hope will be successful.

We attach the original version of the relevant clauses and the proposed new wording of those clauses. The only resolution to be proposed at the SGM is that the constitution be amended according to this proposal. Please take a few minutes to read the attached. (The full constitution can be seen on the website). As a Committee it is our considered opinion that the amendments are necessary if we are to have any hope of receiving any grants.  These monies would be enormously beneficial for the Swaffham Prior project.  We therefore commend these changes to you.

Please come to the SGM on the 9/4/08 and place your vote as to whether or not you are in favour of the changes.  This SGM should not take much of your time and we ask that you make every effort to attend.  If we are able to make the required changes to the Constitution and are successful in our grant applications this will be to the benefit of all the children who play for Burwell Tigers now, in the near future and thereafter.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and see you at the SGM!

Burwell Tigers Football Club Committee.
