Congratulations to Burwell Tigers U14 who were promoted to League Division D.
After a minute silence as a mark of respect for Neale Smith, the match against Ramsey started slowly with Ramsey taking a shock lead in the first five minutes. Soon after, Josh Logan scored with a fine run on the left to drive a great shot for an equalizer. Tigers then took a good grip of the game with Billy Johnson scoring a great goal from rebound and Josh Logan adding his second before half time.
It was one way traffic in the second half with Tigers scoring seven goals - a hat-trick by Tigers’ Captain, Gareth Garner and another hat-trick by Kian Derakhshan and a fine goal from a corner kick by Sam Rasdall. Tigers could have added many more. Shots from Ben Elgar and Sam Lomas just found the woodwork, and Mathew Cooke and Nicky Harwood went very close to scoring. It was a great and solid performance all round by all the players, in particular by Josh Fairweather, Oliver Murfitt, Adam Stronge and Daniel Bannister in defence and Charlie Goodchild in the goal.
Mishi Derakhshan, Tigers U14 Coach said: ”The team has really done well this season. We were arguably the best team in the division and this is a great footballing milestone for all the players. We played great football and showed the determination and discipline that required for a team to be successful. We now have a team that has players with the right character, focus and desire to do well in the next division.”
Tigers played 22 matches, won 17, drew 1 and lost 4. They scored 130 goals and conceded 37 goals.
“The team would like to dedicate this achievement to Neale Smith.”, added Mishi.
